Owl pops/1000 views!

A friend asked me to make her some cake pops to bring to work this week. She left the design up to me, and I know she LOVES owls, so really what was I going to make?! aha I made owls!!! These, I have to say are my favorite pops to date!! They're so cute and sparkly! They were a big hit! <3

I've decided to give something a try here. I've made it to a thousand hits on my blog (well I'm a little behind so it's a few more than that now) - Thank you everyone!!!<3

As a thank you to all who view my blog and support my baking I would like to try a little contest. I invite you all to leave a little comment on this post, along with your name. Next Saturday I will draw a winner! The winner will receive one dozen cake pops! - Design of your choosing -they can be for an event if you like, or just any ole day cake pops.

Now, I do have to make some restrictions (unfortunately). Anyone entering their name must live in a reasonable driving distance from myself, such as the GTA- Peterborough-Bancroft, as sending pops by post might be complicated and destructive to the goods. Sorry.

Thank you again to everyone for your constant support! And good luck! <3

Fruit Pizza!

I decided to try making a fruit flan (I like pizza better... I'm pretty sure I didn't use the right bottom layer for a flan.) Anyway I wanted to make one for a couple reasons, 1 it was a co-workers birthday and I thought it would be a nice treat for her, she likes to eat healthy so I thought fruit pizza was a good idea (ahah I'm sure that it wasn't healthy! ) And 2 because they're beautiful and there are SO many possibilities! Any kind of fruit you like, any pattern you want! It was a lot of fun.

After I put about 3/4 blueberries on I decided to make a stop motion video of my fruit pizza, so I took them all off and then put them on one by one taking a photo every time. It was a very slow process with the camera involved but I really love  the outcome. So for your viewing- my fruit pizza.

I must say I believe this fruit pizza of mine was a success. I could certainly eat A LOT of it! It was a sugar cookie base with cream cheese icing and then of course - fruit! It was yummy! ;)

Flower Pops

I've seen flowers made from candy done a few ways, and I wanted to give it a try. These are the ones I've done so far. They give me great ideas for Mothers day. :)

On a side note: Thank you to everyone for checking out my blog! We're approaching 1000 hits !! Thank you for your on-going support for Molly's Mixing Bowl. I have some big orders(including my first wedding cake) coming up for the summer. I'm so excited that the orders keep getting bigger and more elaborate. Thank you to everyone who challenges me with different cake/cupcake/cakepop desires! :) Love you guys <3 I have a new business card in the works at the moment, and hopefully a website on the way!! :)

Thomas the tank engine

2 year old Noah loooooves Thomas! So his grandma asked me for a Thomas cake for his birthday this year. :)

I had SO much fun with this cake. I first drew out the picture I wanted on the cake. Then I traced each individual part of him with tracing paper, and made tiny cut outs. I rolled out all the colours that I needed and i used my cut outs to make each shape for the picture. It was a puzzle! So I placed  the background on the cake and then piled each piece of the puzzle on top.  :)

I hear that little Noah (despite being sick that day) just loved his Thomas cake <3

Easter eggs!

These eggs are essentially cake pops. Just no sticks! At first I attempted to poor the melted chocolate over the cake balls...it didn't go very well. The sort of looked like eggs, but they were quite sloppy. SO I put these ones on sticks to being with, dipped them in chocolate, then pulled them off the sticks!

I then hand painted each one with chocolate to make them more festive! :) The grass they're sitting in is also edible. ....It's just awful stuff though! You can eat it! But I strongly recommend you don't. bleh!

Happy egg hunting!

Happy Easter Everyone!

Hello and Happy Easter to all!! This is my Easter cake, made for the Musclow family dinner with love :) It's chocolate cake with buttercream icing and fondant. Decorated with gumpaste/fondant flowers :)

My favorite parts are the flowers and lettering. I used my flower making kit, and a new set of letter cutters that I got for a cake I'll be making this week.

To all my friends and family a very Happy Easter ! <3 !

Lego Cake 2

This is the birthday party cake for the young man who recently turned 11 :)

This is the Lego man. ..In pieces :) I was so excited to build a Lego man, what a challenge! I decided to do a combination of cake and rice krispie treats, because I thought cake would be too heavy and too difficult to get the right shapes with just cake. His arms, head and legs were all made from rice krispies, covered with icing and then fondant. His body shape I made out of chocolate cake with fondant.

For the bulk of the cake I thought it would be a good idea to make individual cakes for each child attending the party. Each one got his/her own Lego brick, with the choice of chocolate or vanilla. :P I made the tops of the  Lego pieces by covered tiny marshmallows covered in fondant.

Here is the finished cake. I made a black icing to add the details, and again I made a mat for him to sit on.

I am so happy with how this cake turned out. It was a very good learning experience, and I really look forward to all future 3D cake projects! :)

Upon delivery I got the chance to meet the birthday boy and see just how much he loved his Lego man cake. His reaction was worth absolutely every single minute spent working on this. Happy birthday little man! :)

Lego Cake 1

I was asked to make two cakes for a certain young mans 11th birthday. One for the day of his birthday and then another for his birthday party. :) The young man in question is a big Lego fan, I'm  told. So a Lego cake was requested of me. As soon as I heard the word I was thrilled! I started drawing and researching Lego cakes others have done.  This is my first 3D cake... :D

I learned that green is his favorite colour <3 and because Lego's are so bright and colourful I made a Lego mat under the big block. I made each Lego piece with fondant and a pizza cutter, then laid tiny dots of fondant on top and pressed them into shape :)
I didn't want to write directly on the cake so I made a happy birthday sign for the front of the cake. :D

I was very pleased with this cake and have since learned that it was also a success with the birthday boy! :)

Happy birthday Dad!

Guess who's a Steelers fan?!?! My D A D <3 It was his birthday also in March, mid march, and we went out for dinner to celebrate. I wanted to make him something special. What else? Cake pops! :)

As I was finishing these pops I thought.. I really hope it is indeed the Steelers that he likes...I was about 97.3% sure...lol

I was right :D (thank goodness! That would have been so very unfortunate! )

( I don't know if anyone remembers the very impossibly small cutters I bought a while back. I honestly didn't know when I would ever use them again.. As it turns out they were just the size I needed to create these pops.)

Happy birthday to a wonderful man, who has been and will continue to be a great dad into his golden years ;)
LOL Love you dad <3!
